Tuesday marks the 20th anniversary of Tupac’s death. Unbelievable.
One of the saddest things about his passing is that hip hop lost one of its most important voices. Even though he was only 25 years old when he was fatally shot in Las Vegas, he had already used his platform to address race relations in a clear, eloquent way. Without question, if he was still here, he would be on the frontline of the conversations about #BlackLivesMatter. We could really use a solider like him right now.
Fortunately, he was a lyrical genius who recorded so much good music during his short life. After he died, Death Row Records, his mother’s Amaru Entertainment, and Interscope released six posthumous solo studio albums. I had the honor of recapping the sets and raking them for Yahoo Music. It was not an easy feat, but I did it, respectfully.
