I’ve interviewed Nick Cannon several times over the years and I’ve asked him about everything from dating Christina Milian to his comedy album to fatherhood, but this interview marks my first serious conversation with the media mogul and host of TV shows like American’s Got Talent and Wild ‘N Out.

Thanks to my family at Yahoo Music for having me interview Nick about his passion about the Black Lives Matter movement. The funny man put his jokes on hold as he explained his issues with the voting system, why he isn’t afraid to speak openly about race, what happened when he went to Dallas and spoke to police after five officers were killed during a Black Lives Matter protest, and how filming Spike Lee’s Chi-Raq in Chicago enhanced his love and commitment to the city engulfed in gang violence.
